JISUN KANG

Violin Faculty

Violinist Jisun Kang is recognized internationally as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral musician and a gifted teaching artist. She is also a founding member of the BeneSori String Quartet where she actively performs in New York and New Jersey. Currently Ms. Kang is the concertmaster of the New York Tutti Ensemble and principal of the Classical Notes Philharmonic. Previously, she has served as a concertmaster of the Ureuk Symphony, Nova Philharmonic, and Sonata da Chiesa. Ms. Kang also performed with the New York Classical Players which features world renowned soloists, Naples Philharmonic in Florida, and Pegasus: The Orchestra.

 

Ms. Kang first started the piano at the age of 5 in Korea, and after moving to England, she started the violin at the age of 9. Soon after, she won her first competition after only 6 months of studying the violin. She had her first solo debut with the Busan Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 13 performing the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto. She has won numerous competitions such as the Watford Music Festival Competition, Busan Music Association Competition, Busan MBC Music Competition, and the Music Journal Competition in Korea.

 

Jisun Kang received her bachelor's degree at the Seoul National University, and earned her master's degree from The Julliard School studying with Stephen Clapp, where she was awarded the Carabo-Cone Scholarship and Dorothy Starling Scholarship. She continued her studies at the Manhattan School of Music with Glenn Dicterow, Lisa Kim, and Yoko Takebe where she received the Professional Studies degree in Orchestral Performance as a scholarship recipient of the Stamas Fund from the New York Philharmonic. She has participated in many music festivals such as Mozarteum International Summer Academy in Salzburg, Che-ju International Music Festival, and Meadowmount School of Music, to name a few.

 

As much as she loves to perform Ms. Kang has a large studio where she teaches with passion and devotion. Beginning of 2014, Ms. Kang has been appointed the position of associate music director of Love Violin, USA which is a non-profit organization dedicated to introducing and teaching underprivileged children to learn a musical instrument. Also, she was on the violin faculty at Mannes Prep from 2016 to 2021. During the summers, she has taught and performed at the Waterville Valley Music Festival in New Hampshire, Maui Summer Music Festival, Pacific Music Institute Summer Festival in Hawaii, and Narnia Music Festival in Italy. in 2013, she co-founded the 4Strings Music Festival in New York where she enjoys performing and teaching.
